Is it just me, or is anyone else interested in knowing a bit more about what part of the world, occupation, hobbies, musical tastes etc are of the others here? I'm going to assume that most of us have semi-similar tastes in reading material XD

Sure
I'm game if you are!
24/F/currently in Mississippi
Engaged to be married (dating for 4 1/2 years, engaged for 1 1/2)
5th year college senior
I like to read, write, listen to music, hang out with my kitties, watch movies, etc. etc. etc. (normal people stuff).
In addition, I am a gamer. I am drawn to the fantasy world (thus my interest in ToMU and Chatoyant College). I enjoy Nintendo and PC games the most.
I prefer Rock/Alternative music, sometimes on the heavier side, and I absolutely refuse to listen to country or hip hop/rap.
Some of my favorite books to date are as follows: Eragon, Eldest, LotR, The Hobbit, The Giver, Big Fish. (this list is an off-the-top-of-my-head list, and is in no way complete)
Who's next? Any other questions?
Kiwi
Me of course :)
I should have expected you to be the first MM :)
46/M/New Zealand/Divorced
Marine and cryo fitter by trade, work as a mechanic by choice
Hobbies include reading, sailing, fishing, bowling + several others.
Also a gamer, both table top and PC, (semi addicted to WoW), used to play a lot of Diablo and Mechwarrior. Still actively DM CoC and SLA games. Build my own computers.
Reading tastes are mainly scifi/fantasy with a reasonble mix of horror included. Favorites list too long and tends to alter as I find new authors.
Music wise, pretty much a metal-head, preferably on the darker side, although I do have a fairly wide taste in other genres to listen too, but, likewise no rap, country, hiphop or similar.
Not a lot else to say about me for now but feel free to ask anything you want. (Doesn't mean I'll answer :P)
WoW
I also enjoy bowling (both real and Wii), and fishing (even though I haven't done it in QUITE a while).
I played WoW for like 3 months before I rededicated myself to my school work. Planning on picking it back up in a few weeks. I also enjoy playing Diablo II, and I'm waiting for Diablo III. Also recently been wanting to play Neverwinter Nights 2.
What WoW server are you on?
Alliance
Suramar for most of my chars, the only Horde I have is on Dalaran but only because a friend of mine wanted me in his guild, then dropped out so I don't play that one anymore, just there as a place-marker.
You?
Alliance also
My fiancé's brother is on Cenarion Cirlce, so when we started playing, he asked us to be on his, and that's where the bulk of my characters are. I have a character on Uldamon as well. (Both US servers, of course). I have yet to play Horde...I might try that later sometime.
Cool
If you get a chance, I strongly recommend making a Death Knight just for the dialog you get from Arthas and his minions. Yuo can always delete it afterwards :)
I'll have to wait a while...
For one, I don't have a high enough character to make a Death Knight (I think you have to be level 50 something, right), and my highest level character is 41ish. Second, I haven't bought the newest expansion due to lack of funds (and the fact that I haven't played it in like 2-3 months :P
You guys are dorks
My boyfriend also plays WoW. I haven't the faintest idea what server, though.
I prefer Geek
Indeed, I prefer to be called a geek if anything. I only played for the "free trial" period and one month. My fiancé and I wanted a game we could play together and alone, WoW met that need, so there you go. :P
But that would be accurate
And I wanted something mildly insulting ;)
You wouldn't dare...
to insult your fans. FOR SHAME!!
Sorta geek
I'd classify as a geek if it wasn't for all the outside activities I do (and the amount of sunlight I'm exposed to) but go for it, insult away :)
btw, I also build my own computers :P
No, geek doesn't work
I don't consider geek an insult!
Correct
Geek is not an insult. However, Damoinion, most geeks are exposed to plenty of sunlight, it's just the rare breed that are completely pasty.
kIng of the nerds chiming in
If you define words by context, a lot of insults aren't...
For instance, in school every time someone called me a nerd I would thank them. Eventually curiosity would get the better of them, and they would ask why I said thank you. I would explain that I defined the word nerd in context, and the contextual definition seemed to be anyone smarter than the person using it as an insult, so they were saying I was smart. Then they would try to hit me, but...
Eventually I requested and was given the title king of the nerds in my high school.
Queen of the Geeks
Well, I am the Queen of the Geeks. Our kingdoms are at WAR!
Boffin incoming :3
How does 'bof' or 'boffin' rate on the Insult Scale, then? I've been called that a few times, but mostly by friends... mostly... ^^ *lol*
Me next !
21/F/Quebec
I'm a university student, witch apparently means I'm required by law to have to much reading material and to little sleep ;-)
I study psychology, and work part time with autistic children. I have very little time for hobbies and such, witch makes me sad, cuz me like crafts !
The music I listen to changes about every other day, but for now I seem to have a thing for melodic techno, witch I didn't even know existed last week...
Got some reading to do now :-) But feel free to ask !
Oh totally!
I feel you on the not-enough-sleep thing. You know, my campus paper recently ran an article written by a student on the ridiculous nature of college life; namely, that students are expected to sacrifice health, family and damn near anything else to the Gods of Academia, all while professors rest on their laurels and assign huge amounts of pointless work and projects that will make us pull our hair out, but won't matter after we've taken the course.
I'm in Quebec, so on top of
I'm in Quebec, so on top of expecting us to sacrifice everything to their whims, were expected to feel very veryyy guilty about how much were costing to the system while doing it.
I keep asking how they can work it in their minds to guilt trip us in *and* out of school at the same time. I haven't received an answer yet...
Sleeping is overrated...
... at least, that's what the professors here seem to think as well. A hundred pages to read for every class in my second major (the first is more like, write a paper on obscure stuff in chinese, or something) seems to be very normal... you're not the only one :)
25/m/SoCal History major
25/m/SoCal
History major right now, but thinking about an English minor.
I like all sorts of games (PC, console, p+p rpgs, board games)
Music I like is best catagorized as 'eclectic'. I like some jazz, rock, alternative, grunge, punk, metal, but no pop or country/western.
I like most kinds of fictional books, including graphic novels, but my favorite authors are Robert Heilein, Isaac Asimov, Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, Spyder Robinson, Jim Butcher, and Christopher Paolini.
English
I am an English Major. I highly suggest against it :P
Have you read Brisingr yet?
Brisingr
Haven't read it yet, but it's on my Christmas list.
Me either
For one, I didn't have the money. For two, I haven't had the time. Now that the school semester is ALMOST over, I get to get it. I wanted to wait anyway so that I could reread Eragon and Eldest, so it's fresh.
Ooops! Almost forgot...
Another author I'm reading right now is Stephenie Meyer. Yeah, she writes teenage/vampire romance novels, but I'm allowed a guilty pleasure. And the writing is done very well, to boot.
don't feel guilty
I am 8 years your senior, and I have read all the harry pottor books, so don't worry about it. You take good writing where you can find it, whether here or in a book for a teenager/kid.
Heck, I read my CS Lewis books till they fell apart.
19/f/New Zealand I'm a
19/f/New Zealand
I'm a stay-at-home mum of 1 (should be 2 by mid next year) Though now my eldest is 2, I'm wanting to get into some official study again... probably part time for the next few years, but I have the eternal struggle of what to choose???
Engaged for the last 3 1/2 years... will eventually get around to our ideal hand-fasting ;) just taking it's time.
Used to be into gaming, but I have a tendancy to get far too hooked, and don't really have the time for it these days, so I try to stay away.
Reading tastes - I love Fantasy, and crafty type non-fiction.
Music, I probably couldn't pin it down to a genre, but I'd have to say "heavy rock" would be the best.
My favourite current webnovels are this, Tales of MU (and more tales) Queen of Seven & A change in the weather.
Go southern :)
Yay, another Kiwi! Funny the places we turn up :P
Kiwi?
Does Kiwi refer to the fact that you are both New Zealanders?
XX
This isn't here!
What isn't?
Didn't see a thing :P
You see...
Every now and again in a haste to reply (either because I'm excited or mad (but usually excited)), I forget to hit the little "reply" link. I realize it after the fact, and since you can "edit" your post, I will go back and "edit" everything out and repost as a "reply" so that the person will get their "follow up" message. The system, however, does not allow you to delete a post, nor post blanks, so I must put something there....so you see, it isn't really there...it's just there. :P
Lols
And here was me suspecting you of trying to reduce your self-imposed negative posts jut to cut down MM's post lead into the next bonus :)
Nah
I wouldn't do that. The way I figure it, I'll be there soon enough, and by then, the other story will be posted and I'm sure another lovely plot twist will have come our way and there will be something else I wish to see. And if not, I can always request one of Clare's drawings. Oh so many options.
I can delete posts
And I have deleted at least one of your "this isn't here" posts in the past. But I won't delete that one because it sparked a conversation!
Well...
Maybe next time it happens, I'll just send you a tweet asking that it be removed before anyone sees it and thinks I'm a dork *gasp*.
Yup
Though personally I'm more partial to calling us New Zealander's, calling the birds Kiwi's, and wondering why Americans call Kiwifruit Kiwi's - It's just confusing!
:)
Good Job
Glad to see you registered!
To us Americans, calling Kiwi "kiwifruit" is like calling apples "applefruit" or peaches "peachfruit". The only other fruit we call fruit is starfruit. Because we don't automatically think of starfruit when you say star, you think of the ones in the sky, but when you say kiwi, I think fruit.
If that made any sense.
Passion fruit
Don't forget about passion fruit.
Oh my...
I guess I forgot about that one. Indeed when you say "passion" you don't usually mean the fruit. :P
Muahaha
But why not? :P Passionfruit are yuuummy anyway.
The problem with "kiwifruit" is when someone says "I want to eat a kiwi" (okay probably with better grammar than a five year old, but you get the idea) I don't think fruit, I think bird! And it's not chicken ;)
And now I've finally figured how to reply. Thanks MM :)
Um....
You're welcome? I guess cultural differences are still there even if we don't usually think about them :p
grapefruit
And grapefruit! Pink grapefruit for me!
hehe
Dang! I guess there were more of those than I thought.
Kiwifruit
The old name for this was 'Chinese Gooseberry'. It's name was changed roughly 25 years ago,(possibly longer), as a marketing ploy by local exporters to capture the American (USA, not the rest of the continent) market :P
Another fun thing about referring to ourselves as Kiwis was the response from the US military when we were in the same ports: for some reason, they could not see kiwi as a word and tended to break it into an alphanumeric; K1W1; then ask us what it stood for :)
Interesting indeed
Thakns for the little history. I did not know that before today. Now I have something to break the ice at parties (if Kiwi is served, of course).
33/male/military
I am in Kuwait right now, awaiting transport back to the states. I get cranky out here, so please ignore my rough edges, hopefully I will be civilized when I return.
I am married, with a teen, a 2 year old, a 1 year old, and one on the way, donno how much longer till the wife kills me because of all the pregnancies...
I play all the expected, video games, rpgs, etc. My favorite RPG is Gurps-you could run a game of Chatoyant College in Gurps if you wanted to, grin.
Read fantasy, sci-fi, and military. Also Huffpost, RealClearPolitics, and Yahoo news. As well as here, most of AE's stuff (Mutales, star harbor, void dogs), and MelinMiranda. Also some web comics...
Oh, um, graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with an Accounting BBA.
Here goes
I am 33/M/Northwest USA
I currently work in the computer field trouble shooting problems. I have been dating a sweet lady for about 2 years now and we are just moving in together. She is almost as onry as I am.
I play several types of games, about the only ones I have a hard time getting into is the football games. They just aren't the same as they use to be years ago. I am playing Eve-online as my online game now, I use to play FFXI and WoW but I needed to cut back on what I was spending. I use to play table top D&D and Shadow Run but I had to move and started working, finding time was the hard part after that.
I read most fiction, fantasy/sci-fi, horror/thillers, and what ever else that catches my eye. Online stuff I read way to much to even make a short list but here are a few. ToMU, An Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom, Dead end Streets, and the stories at wibblypress.net.
Wow
Seems like most of us like the same things! Go figure!
