Chapter 36: Logistics

To Corrie's surprise, Duncan was the one who raised his hand. "Go ahead," she said to him.

He cleared his throat. "Do you really need me to be the treasurer?"

Everyone laughed. Duncan even smiled a little. Once Corrie had stopped laughing, she said, "Well, we do need a treasurer if we're going to be an official club. That's one of the few things I know about being a club. Since everyone seems to be interested I'll try to find out what else we need to do to be official and have our own space, if possible. But it would be good if someone wanted to take the treasurer position so Duncan doesn't have to do it. I don't think this is quite his scene."

"I'll do it," said Theresa. "That is, if you don't mind."

"Of course not," Corrie said, giving her a smile she hoped would be encouraging. After the way Theresa had been treated by the Circle of the Goddess members, Corrie wanted to make sure she felt very comfortable here. "If someone else is interested, we could have a vote. In fact, if someone else is interested in being president, we could vote on that, too."

"No way," said Naomi. "This is your thing. And I hate math."

Roe grinned. "I was about to say the same thing."

"Okay, then," said Corrie. "Theresa, when I figure out what exactly you need to do, if anything, I'll let you know. If we do end up being able to build a library, there probably will be money you'll have to deal with."

"That's fine with me," she said. "I like money!"

"Fabulous!" said Corrie with a laugh. "I guess that's everything for tonight, then. Will you two be okay walking back?"

"Sure," said Darcy, unfolding her legs so she could start to stand up. "If we get soaked, at least we have dry clothes back in our rooms."

"You're not roommates?" asked Talia.

"No, we actually live next door to each other. We both have singles in Richmond."

"Singles as freshmen? Lucky," said Roe.

"Are you complaining about me?" said Talia.

"We are lucky," said Darcy, with a glance at Theresa. Theresa looked down. Corrie bit her lip. If their assumptions about Theresa were correct, she probably had a single just because of her gender. It would be hard for them to place her with either a male or female roommate. Darcy, on the other hand, appeared to be simply lucky. Unless there was more to her than met the eye. Corrie was almost getting used to there being more to people than met the eye.

Theresa and Darcy were pulling their coats on. "So, hopefully we'll see you at breakfast or something in the next couple of days," said Theresa.

"I hope so," said Corrie. "If you miss us, Edie and I live in room 508--that's the fifth floor--and Dawn and Naomi live next door."

"You can drop by anytime, one of us is usually there," Edie offered.

"Thanks," said Darcy, settling her hat onto her head. "I--we--really appreciate that."

"Good luck with the weather," said Dawn. Darcy and Theresa nodded and waved as they left. Corrie got up and walked to the window. Closer to it, she could see the wind whipping the trees and the rain around, and after a moment saw the two of them walking past, Darcy clutching her hat close to her head.

"Well, that went better than I expected," she said, turning away from the window. She clasped her hands together to stretch her arms in front of her and over her head.

"How badly could it have gone wrong?" Dawn asked. "It's a bunch of people who like each other in a room."

"Oh, I don't know." Corrie walked toward the table and picked up her paper. "For example, I could have forgotten to have people sign a sheet."

"Well, it's not like you don't know where almost everyone lives," said Annie, standing up.

"True. But I thought maybe Darcy and Theresa wouldn't show up, maybe we wouldn't find anything club-related to talk about, maybe we'd be really bored. That kind of thing."

"You said you weren't nervous about the meeting!" Edie protested.

"Well... I wasn't, really." Corrie shrugged. "It wouldn't have been that bad. That doesn't keep me from thinking of all the ways it could have gone wrong!" She walked to the door and held it for Edie and Dawn, who had their armfuls of books again. "But I didn't think it would go this well. I didn't know we would come up with a topic for the meetings!"

"You don't mind if I invite other people to the meetings, do you?" Talia asked as they all started up the steps.

"Of course not," said Corrie. "But I don't know if we'll be meeting in the same place next week. I guess it's still up in the air."

"We'll get it all worked out," Dawn said.

Corrie grinned. "We will."

Oh, that went well :)

Seems like the whole meeting went rather well - though they will have one less coming next time but maybe some new ones coming so it will be evened out...
